  1. Rhoda Simon

Hello Janice, do you have any beginner evening classes. Thank you, Rhoda.

  2. Ann Weiszmann

I would like to register for Beginner Level 1 at the Overbrook and Dufferin location, but cannot make the first class (March 24) as it the evening of my son’s science fair. When is the next offering of this course?

I live in the neighbourhood on Maxwell street and would like an evening class. I have knit before, but not for many years, so would really consider myself a complete beginner.

Thank you in advance for getting back to me. I am really looking forward to learning to knit.

      Hi Ann,
Thanks for your e-mail. I’ve set up the not-quite-a-beginner-knitter exactly for people like you, who’ve knit many years ago but pretty much forgotten how to knit. What I’ve found is that people who have never picked up knitting needles before can take 1.5 hours to learn how to hold them. Whereas people who’ve knit but forgotten pick it up again in 15 to 20 minutes. So then I can teach you how to purl and read a very simple pattern in the first class.
Of course it’s your choice, but I would recommend that you take the not-quite-a-beginner class instead of the novice beginner. That being said, I’m working on my Spring schedule this week, and it’s still very much in a state of flux. I will be offering both of these classes from my home on Overbrook; ‘actual beginner’ on Monday nights (instead of Tuesdays as my schedule currently shows) and the ‘not-quite-a-beginner’ on Tuesday evenings. Although I could switch these up.
Once I finalize the evening, I start the actual beginner course every 3rd week, and the not-quite-a-beginner every 5th week. That’s because the actual beginner is 2 weeks, whereas the not-quite-a-beginner is 4 weeks.

I’m not sure if you got my e-mail, Bamini, but no, I don’t teach in Brampton. My location is near Finch and Dufferin. I do home visits, however, a very reasonable price. My direct e-mail is Please let me know if you’d like further information. Thanks.

    Please and thanks

Thanks for contacting me. I’d love to teach you! The “Absolute Beginner’ class is what you’re looking for; it’s 2 – 1.5 hour classes (a week apart) and you’ll learn to cast on and do the 2 basic stitches; knit and purl. Following this, most students move on to the “not-quite-a-beginner” which is 4 – 1.5 hour classes, but certainly there’s no obligation.

I have no more than 4 students per class, and the cost of the Absolute Beginner is $55 plus GST. I gift you a set of needles and yarn for practicing and for your first project. I teach in the Dufferin/Finch area.

You can view the November schedule under the “calendar” menu. Scroll down and you can go to November or December. At a glance, I have this course starting as follows:
      Sunday, November 1st at 10:00 a.m.
      Wednesday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m.
      Tuesday, November 24th at 1:00 p.m.

Please e-mail me directly at to register and/or for more information.
